Boutique Residences Burke Road, Kew

​At Kew Residences, we explored three distinct façade directions as part of an early design process, each testing a different architectural response to form, material and character within a well-established suburban setting.

Scheme A investigates a restrained, minimalist expression through a wedge-like form articulated in natural travertine, using sharp geometry and material depth to create a composed street presence. Scheme B takes a softer approach, using fair-faced concrete to shape a gently curved façade that reads as more sculptural and fluid. Scheme C shifts the tone again, with hand-laid light-toned brick introducing warmth, texture and a more relaxed, domestic quality.

Testing multiple façade schemes allowed us to interrogate how materiality and form influence not just appearance, but how a building sits within its neighborhood and is experienced over time.
