New Life for an Existing Home: Brookfield Childcare Centre & Swimming School

Every great project begins by recognising the potential that is already there. This project thoughtfully repurposes and extends an existing house to create a contemporary childcare centre alongside a new, purpose-built swimming school—giving new life to the original building while establishing an engaging learning and recreational environment for children and families.

Rather than starting from scratch, the design embraces adaptive reuse by retaining the familiar character and residential scale of the existing structure. Carefully considered contemporary additions are then introduced to support modern educational, aquatic and operational requirements. The contrast between the original brickwork and the new architectural forms creates a distinctive yet cohesive identity across the development.

Internally, the spaces are designed to be welcoming, functional and filled with natural light, supporting children as they learn, play, swim and grow. By combining thoughtful preservation with contemporary design, the project demonstrates how existing buildings can be successfully transformed to meet evolving community needs while reducing waste and supporting a more sustainable future.
